Connecting sound bar to a Sony CX523

Conencted the red and white to the relevent connections on the rear panel, but no sound out of the bar.

Yeah headphones are switchable and can be left plugged in whilst the main tv speakers are used.

I'll get a  3.5mm to phono adaptor sorted.

Hi,

if memory serves, you have to go to sound in the menu scroll down the list till you come to speaker, click that and change it from tv speaker to audio system and that should do it.

We had it on the last tv, only red and white connetcors.

have you tried the headphone jack, using this cancels out the tv speakers and sends the audio to the sound bar.

No, will need an adapter for that, but tbh i have tried everything myself hence being on here for help, and you thought the same.

Used one of those in the past, so from memory these are the options you need to check.

If you use the red and white phono, you need to select the L1 input and if using the headphone port then L2. If you find the soundbar still does not work, just stick a set of headphones into the TV and see if you get audio.
