Digital Optical Output from KD-55XE7003

Hi,

I can only seem to get 2 channel audio out of the optical connection on the above TV - Freeview, Youtube and NefFlix all give the same "problem".

(optical connected to a Linn -surround capable- pre-amp)

Question: does this set have the capability to deliver 5.1 across this connection given the material being played has it available and if so, what are the settings that are needed.

thanks KW

Hi elans4,

I think there is an option in the TV called "Digital Audio Out", it should be on Auto instead od PCM so that the sound is output without being changed. You can find this mentioned in the user manual on page 28 in this link: https://bit.ly/2mqAKFg.

Hope this helps,

Hi Almou_10,

since posting I had stumbled on that setting and choosing Auto 1 does get most of what I need - Freeview and Netflix are OK  - Youtube still refuses to go beyond stereo, which is probably related to the App - any experience of trying to get multichannel out of the Youtube App?

Sony manual could be more useful describing Optical choices but I guess we are all expected to have an HDMI equipped pre amp these days.

many thanks

Hi,

I don't think the Youtube app supports outputting audio in 5.1 surround.
