File Formats and Sound codecs from HDD

Just a heads up.

Got a KDL55W805

I watch MKV file movies (supported on the supported list) with either AC3/Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1 sound (Both supported.

When watching on my USB HDD outputting audio to my Amp, AC3/Dolby Digital works fine (Says Dolby Surround on TV and amp picks up 5.1 Dolby), however when the TV outputs DTS, although it does say DTS SURROUND on the TV only 2 channel LPCM is detected on the amp.

I rang Sony they basically said deal with it.

Just a heads up incase anybody else is more of an MKV on HDD kinda guy for their HiDef Movies.

If anyone can help though would be awesome!

Hi there

I have done a little digging.  In the Supported Codecs (Under MKV), it lists DTS Core:

DTS Product Support PDF states this:

DTS Core.jpg

See where it says 2ch.  The TV is down converting multichannel DTS into 2 channel DTS-Core as supported, and outputting it to the AMP as LPCM 2channel.

Cheers
