KDL-46NX713

My Sony Bravia has developed an intermittent fault. For some reason, when I put the TV guide on, when I change channel using the + or- key or if I type in the channel number or if the reminder is on the TV will turn itself off and back on again. When the reminder is on the TV will change channel then turn off, but when it comes back on again it will be on the original channel, before the reminder kicked in. Is there anything I should be doing to prevent this from happening? It has got to the point where it is becoming annoying TIA.

Hi there

Before going further, I think it might be prudent to do the usual problem solving firstly.

  • Can you ensure that you have the latest firmware installed on the TV?  See HERE for more details
  • If and once the latest firmware is installed, can you perform a factory reset of the TV.  This normally clears any errors or "gremlins".

Once done, test the TV out to see if the problems are still their or disappeared.

Cheers

Quinnicus,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have checked the TV and it appears to have the correct firmware update installed. TIA

Did you manage to do a factory reset of the TV?

Quinnicus,

Strangely though, the problem has not re-occurred since I posted on this discussion group. If it does I will try and do the factory reset, if I can remember how to do it. Thanks again for your help.

Quinnicus,

Having said that it appears to be OK. Today I changed the channel a few times and on one occasion it did turn itself off and then back on again. I may try the factory reset whilst no one is watching the TV.

Yes definately try that, remember that you will loose picture settings etc, so if you have them customised, might be best to write them down (makes it easier to add them back again afterwards).

Fingers crossed

Quinnicus,

I have just this minute reset the TV back to the factory settings. Here's hoping. Thanks for your help with this matter. I just hope it does cure it. Thanks once again.

Quinnicus,

I have given it a couple of days and the problem of the TV turning itself off intermittently appears to have cleared up after I did the factory reset. Thanks again for your help.
