Viewing Home Movies from external Hard Drive on KDL40W5500 TV

I have a Seagate External Hard Drive, Backup Plus Portable, which I use to show my home movies on my KDL40W5500 TV.

I have an iMac using the latest operating system OS X 10.8.2

Showing my Home Movies only seems to work if I format my External Hard Drive as MSDOS FAT which comes up as an option on my disc utility.

As iMovie produces movies in .mov format I also have to convert the movies into .mpg which I do via file conversion software, before tansferring them onto the MSDOS FAT formattted External Hard Drive.

All of which works except that the TV won't display the movie in full screen. The option to change the screen format is prohibited while inputting from the USB.

I have a number of questions which I hope you can help me with -

Is there any way I can get my Home Movies to display in full screen?

Am I correct that there is another, more recent format called NTFS?

Could you please confirm that the KDL40W5500 only supports MSDOS FAT?

Are the latest TVs using MSDOS FAT or NTFS or both?

My iMac doesn't offer NTFS as an option in the Disc Utility, is there anyway I can reconfigure my external hard drive to have the movies display on the TV if and when my next TV only has NTFS?
