hi
i think i found an answer

it turns out the graphics card doesnt support HDCP (or whatever its called)
its the encryption thats required to send the video signal over the HDMI cable to the TV.

sony never said that the laptop doesnt support HDMI output for HDCP video!
law suit anybody?

I cannot believe a Blu-Ray Vaio like the FZ11Z is not HDCP certified. Are you sure your TV is HDCP certified?

You have tried pressing Fn + F7 to change the display from the Vaio to the TV ONLY? HDCP will block any attempt to display the protected content on more than one display at once. You need to set it to a single display.

Also check you are running the latest version of WinDVD BD - there are THREE updates available for your model here: -

EDIT:-

If you look at the specifications of the FZ11Z you will see that it DOES support HDCP: -

TV out type S-Video + HDMI 1.2 supporting HDCP

I have the FZ11Z, and it has the 8400GT. It definately DOES support HDCP. I link my TV and monitor up using the HDMI port all the time ( I also posted seperately how amazing the new blu-ray planet earth on a HDTV). I can even give you photos of it working if you want.

More than likely its your TV. The rules are strict on HDCP. YOu may have a recording device hooked up to your TV which will prevent this working. All of this is to prevent copying the movie.
