Booting from external USB hard drive on my FE11H

Hi all,

I am desperately trying use an external USB hard drive as a bootable device on my FE11H - but it just refuses to do anything.

I set the BIOS so that the floppy drive is 2nd on the list after CD-ROM - it says in the BIOS that floppy = external hard drive "when available"

The drive appears in the POST screen - I can see it has detected it and can see it.

But no booting.

Is there a key combo that allows me to select to boot from an external hard drive? I seem to remember one on an old IBM I once had the pleasure to play with...

Hi James,

I'm afraid it is not possible to boot through USB on Sony Vaios.

A 'third party' boot is only possible using a Sony Floppy USB Drive or via a device connected through the PCMCIA Bus or on some models, over a network.
