bought a 125 mbps router will I need a new wifi card for my vaio

Will I need a 125mbps wifi card for my vaio notebook or will the standard wifi reciever work at 100 mbps?

Hi rhainman

You do not have to buy a new card, as your Router should be backward compatible and therefore still support your current set-up..:smileyhappy:

OK lets be careful here.

Currently there are three standards that are ratified for wireless use under the 802.11 forum. These are a, b and g - the fastest of these is g running at 54Mbps and for this you must have a 'g' rated card. Anything beyond this is proprietry and is not a ratified standard so you will not be making best use of the alleged 125Mbps bandwidth.

To my knowledge there is not a Sony card that runs at 125Mbs wireless and I have to say I have never heard of any other car that offers this outside the proprietry space.

Check the routers manufacturer's page for a suitable PCMICA card
