Cant install software with more than one CD on VGN-AR11S

I have just bought A Sony VGN-AR11S Laptop and evertything works perfectly except when i come to install software with more than one disc. The software asks for disc 2 but when inserted nothing happens or the laptop locks up, i have tried disabling norton and other software but to no avail all my movies and software on DVD work perfectly.
I also have a slight problem with a couple of games where the sound is all crackling and buzzing at certain points(Half Life2 and Oblivion) ive tried altering quality of sound and disabling things but no joy.
Has anyone else come accross this if so can you help

with reference to the sound i manually downloaded the update for the sound card and installed it myself instead of letting auto update run. This seems to have cured my problem with the sound on all my games. The auto update must not have installed the software correctly.
Still have the same problem when installing more than one cd i have updated the drive software manually but this hasnt changed anything, But hey 1 out of 2 aint bad

There is afirmware update available from the VAIO Link website.
This firmware update should solve disc reading problem
