Cant swich off my Viao notebook

I have triedswitching off my notebook bu it has got stuck in the shutdown process. The screen is the windows shutting down screen and even if i hold down the on off button for 30 seconds nothing happens. I have unplugged power and it is running off the battery. Someone help please.

Remove the battery, allow the notebook to shut down and wait a couple of minutes. Re-insert the battery and AC power and re-boot.
If there is a problem at boot press F8 and select the `last known good configuration¿ option.

If it's relitively new I would contact Sony about this, as it's really should turn off after 10 secs when you hold down the power key

Sometimes, dodgy software can cause this by not shutting itself down. So definitly try a system restore
