DVD RW writer won't read DVD-RAM

Hi
I have a PCG-GRT 716S with a DVD RW DW-U50A drive.
It reads and burns CDs fine. It plays great DVD movies.
But when I've tried inserting various blank DVDs it neither wants to read them or write on them. It won't even tell me how much space is on it.

Can anyone please help? I've already checked for driver updates and still no use.

Oh and by the way I don't really want to create video DVDs but store data on them. Also downloaded and installed the latest firmware so no luck...

Best only to post in one place - It confuses simple people like me!!

Actually, this is probably the right place!

Not every DVD drive supports DVD-RAM

Your best bet is to use Nero InfoTool from ahead.de so you know if it is supported

GRT716S specs on vaio-link.com

The drive supports DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW. It does NOT support DVD-RAM, so it is no big surprise that it cant handle the DVD-RAM media.

Since your drive is faster on DVD+R media, I suggest you buy some of those.
