fan hum on pcg-k315m

I've just purchased a pcg-k315m and find the constant hum of the fan slightly distracting. is it me or is this the same for anyone else? my previous laptop had a much lower spec and had almost no hum.

If you have a desktop CPU this is normal.

Even some Pentium M machines hum.

I just ignore hum.

I know what you mean, but its nothing compared to my desktop...that has 8 fans in it and they shift 160cf/m between them through the case! The reason the K series have to have a fan is as kee-lo said, they have a standard Pentium 4 chip, with speedstep. When the laptop is plugged in, these run hot!. Have you tried changing the performance settings to quiet? It will sacrifice performance to keep fan noise to a minimum, i suggest you try that. Just go on power properties in control panel and u will find it there.

I would avoid desktop processors in laptops.
