graphics card replacement

I have an RZ104 desktop and the graphics card seems to have failed (screen breaks apart then totally locks the machine). the card seems to be an Asus V8460 Ultra 128M. Can anyone suggest a current replacement?

Cheers.

On a related subject, anyone know what motherboard this machine has (PCV-RZ104G) and whether there would be any advantage whatsoever in upgraging this, particularly if I am considering upgrading to Vista this year at some point?

Cheers.

Hi Simon and welcome to Club Vaio.

Your RZ104G has an Asus P4S533-VL motherboard and the Graphics chip is built in - it is actually a nVidia 4 chip.

See if you have a spare PCI or AGP slot - if you have you can inset a more modern graphics card.

THIS PCV-RX951 has the same motherboard but different attachments. It actually has a nVidia FX card for graphics.

An upgrade is a big job and may not be the most economical solution.
