Headphones volume too low

I have a Sony Vaio PCG V505DP

The voluem on the headphones is terribly low even though I've turned up the volume to max..any ideas?

Yes the volume is limited.
I would get an amplified set of headphones.

broomie, it could be that you hardware settings are incorrect. What you need to do is to go into your audio device settings and turn the acceleration to max, and set your speaker volume.

It could be due to using high impedance headphones - try to get some high sensitivity, low-medium impedance phones.
