How to use supplied remote control with Sony Vaio laptop?

The computer I have is a Sony Vaio laptop VPCF13Z1E and the operating system is Windows 8.

I have a Sony RM-MCE30E TV-style remote control for use with the laptop. However, I can't work out how to use it? I've tried to point and click it when I've got both Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center working (the remote has got the Windows Media Player logo on it), but it doesn't work; I'm sure it requires some kind of configuration.

I have gone through the manuals for the computer at http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/VPCF13Z1E_B/manuals but there are no instructions on how to set-up the remote control.

Thank you.

Hi ViaoRules.

Are you sure the remote was supplied with your Vaio?  I thought the RM-MCE30E was only supplied with Vaios that have a TV Tuner installed.

Only Vaios with a built in IR Receiver are compatible with this remote and looking at the specifications of your VPCF13Z1E, I can't see that it is compatible with a remote control.  In addition, there is no mention of the remote in your manual.

I may be wrong, so check the specifications of your Vaio but I think the last laptop with a remote commander included was the VGN-AR and VGN-AW series Vaios.  These were the last laptops to have a TV Tuner installed.
