Is sony the only way to upgrade RAM on my Sony Vaio PCV-V1

I have a Sony Vaio PCV-V1 (its the desktop with the computer built into the back of the screen) I think it has 512 Ram but space to upgrade to 1GB ?? I've been told the only way to do this is to get Sony to pick it up at great expense !! Is this true,

Is anyone else in the same boat... or have any advice !!!

Thanks,

Andy

Andy,

I am not sure of the architecture of this machine, but it has been known to change the RAM, but there was a lot of work to be done to get in alone!

Ask over @ vaiovillage.com

Your external HDD question - I use a Western Digital 160Gb Multi Media system which has a USB2 and Firewire connection to my W1 (when it gets back). Great value for money as it also includes a multi-card reader.

To upgrade the RAM in the V1 is a pain in the arse which is why Sony recommends a return to base. If it is out of warranty, there was a procedure on the US web site for getting into the V1, but it is not for the feint-hearted!
