lost removable drives

I seem to have lost all the removable drives on my Vaio desktop . CF,memory stick's

Can you give us a few more details here?
For example, are the drives recognised in My Computer or Device Manager or is it just Explorer that fails to see them?

Sometimes you can get the computer to redetect the drives by shutting down the computer completely, inserting cards into the reader, restarting the computer.

are thet internal drives?

If so try re-installing from recovery disks

Thanks for taking the time to help a new vaio soul. Solved the problem.The problem was due to a USB hub I had installed recently. (Belkin 7port hub) As soon as I removed the drives came back and the machine speeded up. Not sure if the Hub is faulty or not set up right.

Glad to hear that you have it sorted Klem.
Kee-Lo¿s point is very valid. Depending on what you have plugged in, you may need to use the external power adaptor with the hub.

The hub is powered from the wall. seems to get hot as well and had stopped my scanner and other usb devices which were plugged into it.
Lost the reciept so will have to see on how I get the unit exchanged.
