Hi,
My hard drive has failed on my vaio and I need to get a replacement. I phoned Sony and they quoted me £230. I can fit one myself but I have been told that the hard drive for this computer is quite specialised. Can anyone help on what part number/model I need so I can shop around to get another?
Many thanks
Hi Dominique32 and welcome to Club Vaio.
I don't think there is anything particularly special about the V1/G hard disc and almost any ATA hard disc should fit. Do you know how to get into the computer's innards? This is the only snag.
Have a look at the drives reviewed HERE - just remember that you will need a PATA (Not S-ATA) version of the drive.
Hi
I also had a similar quote from sony for a new PCV-V1/G Hard drive,
When I sent the unit to them for repair they then advised I also required a new motherboard, bumping up the repair to £480 total cost.
beware the extra costs you may be faced with should you chose you sony for the repair!!!
Hmm, opening a V1 does not seem a simple task...
be aware that when trying to self repair this thing and stuff does get damaged, you might be facing a high repair cost...
