optical drive problem

hi, can anyone help?.my optical drive has stopped reading discs,it won,t even recognise that there is a disc in the drive but it reads dvd,s ok?.:smileycry:

Hi and welcome to Club Vaio,

I am no expert on the innards of DVD drives so maybe I shouldn't be answering your post, but I believe they have two different lasers. One for reading DVD's and the other for CD's.

Your drive works fine in respect of DVD's so perhaps the laser for CD's has stopped working.

In the absence of more knowledgable posts, have you tried a lens cleaner?

I am not sure if they do any good but it might be worth a try.

If its still under warranty I guess it won't break the bank.
