PCG-K115M LCD flicker problem

My K-Series laptop is about 6 months old and recently the LCD has started to flicker in an erratic "up and down" fashion nearly all the time.

Also some colours (mostly lighter) on the screen are fuzzy or look like the static you see on an untuned channel on a TV. Giving the screen a slight knock where it joins the main unit by the power light seems to fix the problem sometimes but it inevitably comes back once the lid has been closed and opened.

I am told this is very probably a loose LCD cable problem, which would make sense but I have been quoted almost £120 not including parts to fix this by an independent laptop repair centre specialising in Vaios.

Does my warranty cover this or something? The shop i bought it from do not take responsiblity after 1 month but instead gave me a phone number for Sony which didnt work.

Can anyone please give me a phone number or URL or anything, even tips or suggestions on how to solve this problem without spending a silly amount of money on something that should really be covered by Sony?

Thanks very much,
Ash.

I got mine back today, was a loose connection.
But, they also gave me a brand new battery, and, for some reason, a brand new DVD Drive... cant complain at that!

Ok that really is weird, when I sent my flickering screen in for repair they also replaced my DVD drive even though there was nothing wrong with it?

For All those still interested in the ongoing Saga, an update  :

Called repair centre and spoke to Sarah (are they all irish?), who was nice lol

Anyway, she going to actually call the repair centre and see whats happening and call me back tomorrow with an update and let me speak to a supervisor (God bless call centre hierachy) about a possible replacement - which is unlikely seeing how my Vaio is now out of warranty :slight_frown:

Any thoughts on handling the call tomorrow?

Yea, the DVD drive thing is wierd... they must get through a tonne of em! Or maybe they have to damage them to get them out to fix the screen, which wouldnt suprise me

And yes Ash, they are all Irish, as the call centre is in Ireland! Some of them have very stong accents and are difficult to understand though!

lol would make sense I suppose them being in Ireland

Ooooh, Repair status update: They've replaced the LCD "right this minute!". Those things are like $300 on their own apparently, whatever that is in real money.

Still, I'm looking forward to talking to the lovely Sarah tomorrow on the phone...she tells me everything's going to be alright

Hmmm, well they've replaced the LCD but now they're waiting for a new mainboard for the thing :slight_frown:

Any idea why it might need a new one?

Should get it back by end of next week they say.

Maybe the test showed a small problem?

Good thinking. Or maybe they put a screwdriver through it when they removed the LCD

Apparently the problem has been fixed and the Laptop is on its way back to me. Should get it back by Monday.

Total time from warranty claim to return: approx 7 weeks.

7 WEEKS!

Edit: Laptop returned yesterday (overnight delivery la de da), all in good condition, screen seems perfect again. Nothing else (new DVD-rom oooh) put in though
