Pixel distortion

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone else has experianced this?
I noticed a couple of weeks back while watching a DVD that where the top of the task bar usually is (but it hides when playing dvd's) there was a sort of white line from the right (the part above the clock). The line was only visible on certain colours, I logged a case with e-support.
I decided to move the task bar to the lefthand side of the screen and to make it auto-hide. It's been like that for at least a week now, and I must say the line while not 100% gone is hardly noticable.
This leads me to believe that as the task bar is on constantly for most users in the same place all the time, that as above the clock area is so bright it managed to distort the brightness of the pixels when the bar was moved or hidden, but after it being removed on a prolonged basis the pixels start returning to normal.

Any thoughts Has this happened to anyone else, perhaps you could try just moving your taskbar, and opening paint, and using a pastely brown or similar colour on a large scale move it over the bottom corner and see if you have a line about 2 inches from the bottom right.

If it seems to be recovering all by itself it might be worth leaving it and seeing how far it goes just in case anything you try might make it worse.

If you can't wait, there's a piece of software that reclaims your screen if the image is burnt in by rapidly changing the pixels until they are capable of restoring themselves but I can't remember what it's called. There's another piece of software that does it on a pixel level to try and repair dead pixels but I can't remember what that's called either.

I'll see if I can remember where I saw them and post it here.

As far as I was aware though LCD screens aren't supposed to suffer a ghost image as they don't have an image projected onto a screen. I'm not sure whats been going on with it really, I know of pixel unsticking software as I had one for my psp. hopefully the pixels will return to normal and there will be no problem, but I have told e-support so perhaps they can offer me a reason.

Thanks matt, this sounds like what it could be, this burn in. Strange thing is although it's basically gone, when it was quite prominent, it was only really on medium brightness colours, very bright or dark (like black) colours it was n't visible, but that certainly sounds like what it could have been.

Well as I say as it is basically gone there is nothing to test it on really, but i think i will either bookmark page or download the fix just in case for a later date.

This is hardly a new phenomenon, that's why we have screensavers.

The Idea may not be a new phenomenon but I was told a few years back that one of the plus points with tft's/lcds was that the old CRT problem of an image being burnt on to a screen was no more. If you know how CRTs work then its easy to understand how the problem occurs with them, I'm not so sure on how the image is burnt on to the LCD screen.
