Power supply question

I have an Sony SZ2XP which runs on an power supply adapter which supplies 19.5v = 4.7A. And a monster sized brick it is.

I have inherited a brick which runs at 15v and 3.5A and is much smaller.

What happens if I plug that into my laptop? Will I be able to use it, but charge the battery more slowly? Or will it not work at all? Or will it screw up my laptop?

Advice please

Probably won't be man enough to run the machine.

But no threat in plugging it in and trying?

Only to your warranty.

Right... is that a serious answer, meaning No? Or a flippant answer meaning Nothing?

I think it's a serious answer. The power supply will probably overheat and potentialy catch fire. If the polarity of the plugs are different then you will kill the notebook.

The power supply which came with your computer is big because it has to be big in order to supply the power that your laptop consumes as well as charge the battery.

Definitely not a good idea to try the other power supply.
