Realtek Sound Chip driver setup problem

Hi!

Have had to wipe and clean install Windows XP Pro onto a Vaio A497XP. (This is not using the recovery disks!)

No problems at all with the install and/or all of the drivers (which we saved first). The problem is, we cannot get the Audio Realtek drivers installed correctly.

By running the setup exe, it would appear after reboot that all should be fine but it is not. No sound, and only the usual legacy stuff showing up in device manager under sound devices.

Also, the speed button volume controls are active but will not move and the VAIO control centre says that there is no audio device.

Everything else (video, utils etc is cool)

Any ideas? have I left out some key stage?

Cheers

Welcome to the Club,
Here is a link for you to double check if you installed XP Pro correctly. If not it is easy to uninstall and reinstall following the venerable James Masters instructions

You are best using the recovery DVDs to reinstall your VAIO then use JamesMolds guide to upgrade to Pro if needed (www.xgsystems.net/forum/)
