Shut Down At Night Or Hibernate?

Hi folks,

I just recently got a Vaio VPCEJ2B1E and it's working very well.

My only question is whether it is recommended I should hibernate or shut down the computer at night?

For example, if I was working the next day, and I put the Vaio in hibernation mode it would be in hibernation mode for perhaps 18 hours or so.  If it was a weekend, or I wasn't working, and I put it in hibernation mode it would only be in this mode for 10 or 11 hours.

What is recommended?

Thankyou!

Hi bingefeller,

I personally would recommend shutting down if the computer will not be used for more than 4 or 5 hours.

Power consumption is minimal in hibernation but a restart will clear out the inevitable memory leakage that occurs when the OS is active for a prolonged period.

Hi Rich,

Many thanks for the helpful reply.  I have actually got into the habit of shutting down completely at night time.   I think that, on your advice, I will continue with this practice.

Thanks again
