Upgrade CPU - possible?

I have a VAIO laptop VGN-FS series.
It has a mobile Intel Centrio CPU running at 1.73GHz
the chipset is Mobile Intel 915GM/PM//GMS/910GML Express

is it possible to buy a faster chip (2.2 GHz)
and just plug it in to the motherboard?

or will the faster chip be incompatible with this motherboard?

You have identified the chipset so head off to www.intel.com and check out what speed processors are supported by this chipset.

If that is favourable you then need to find out if your processor is soldered to the Mobo.

If not identify what type of socket you have for your processor and purchase a faster one of the same Centrino family.

Another consideration:

Will your Bios recognise it properly? Will not be apparent until after fitting!
