Very unreliable external monitor with sleep/hibernate

Hi there. I've got a C1S (with Intel graphics) and use a 20" monitor connected to its vga output.

in xp, when i connected the monitor, it automaticaly switched to it (with full resolution), and the "schemes" worked fine (i.e. icon in taskbar let me switch from monitor+notebook to just monitor and all the resolutions would be fine).

now i've installed vista, and every time i connect the monitor i have to change it's resolution. if i take out the monitor before switching to notebook only then the notebook screen never turns on.

is there a 3rd party utility that i can use to control the monitor outputs?? i regularly connect/disconnect the laptop from the monitor and this problem might cause me to buy a laptop with a proper graphics card.

Hi there!

Have a look at this thread by Seb21 - sorry the screens are in German but it may help your problem: -

What driver version are you using for the Intel GMA 950 Graphics with Vista? I think Version 15.6.1 is the latest - available here: -

To install, you will need to download the .ZIP Version (the .EXE self installer will not work with a Vaio). Extract the files from the .zip by right-clicking on it and choosing "Extract All". Extract to a folder where you can find the driver (such as C:\ GMA950).

1. Click "Start" then right click on "Computer" button and then choose Manage.
2. Permit the User Account Control to run by selecting
the "continue" button. When the Computer Management window opens select the
"device manager" icon.
3. Select "Display adapters" then Double click on the graphics controller
shown.
4. Click on "driver" tab and select "Update Driver".
5. Select the following option: "Browse my computer for driver software".
6. Select the following option: "Let me pick from a list of device drivers
on my computer".
7. Click on the "Have Disk..." button and then the "Browse"
button.
8. Enter the directory where you unzipped the file you downloaded,
and then enter the "Graphics" subdirectory. Locate and highlight the
"igdlh.INF" (if 32-bit) or "igdlh64.INF" (if 64-bit).
Click on the "Open" button.
9. Click on the "OK" button. A window listing all of the
available display types should open. Select the display
adapter that your system contains and then click on the
"Next" button.
10. Click on the "Next" button. The operating system will install the driver.
Click on the "Finish" button when done.
11. Click on the "Close" button and then click on the "Yes"
button to reboot. The driver should now be loaded.
