What exactly is adaptive power?

What exactly does adaptive power mean, and what effect will it have on my computers performance?

I have been trying to calm down the noisy fans on my VGN-A517S, and have found that setting the CPU Fan COntrol to a lower setting reduces fan noise.

Will the fans simply run harder when needed with adaptive turned on?

Thanks,
Abi

Hi Abi,

Amongst other things, the ‘adaptive’ power option will reduce the CPU speed (unless required) and thus extend battery life. Running at a reduced CPU speed will also reduce the temperature of the processor and thus decrease fan noise.

Adaptive power is very cool means you can use your VAIO for 4hrs to surf the net, but it's not good for DVD playback - guess you can't have your cake and eat it.
