Wireless connectivity - not turning on

Hi, I recently got a VGN-AR31M laptop with Windows vista home premium pre-installed. I've Sky broadband with Netgear router. When I turn on the laptop, somehow the wireless connections are not being detected.
As soon as the laptop is rebooted with wireless switch on, I can see the light turning on for couple of minutes in front of the computer and is turning off immediately.
Any ideas please?

Thanks.

Hi sirilu and welcome to Club Vaio.

Open the Wireless Device Switch by double-clicking on the square icon in the System Tray. Check that 2.4GHz Wireless LAN is checked.

Open Network and Sharing Centre by Double-clicking the network icon in the System Tray.
Turn on Network Discovery if this is an option.
Click on 'Manage Wireless Networks'.
Is your Network shown?
If so right-click on it and choose Properties.
On the Connection Tab make sure 'Connect Automatically when in Range' is ticked - while you are there uncheck the 'Connect to a more Preferred Network if Available' box.
Is your network shown as a Private or a Public Network?

Hi Blencogo,

I don't find any wireless icon on the system tray! Also, no network is appearing under "Manage networks" option.

What do I have to do to get the wireless icon in the system tray.

Thanks
