XL100 - Adding Two Hard Disks

I wish to add two hard disks of about 400GB each (one for back-up). I want to make sure that they are quiet and do not generate too much heat. I will be using these disks for normal MCE applications (music, tv etc). What disks have people used and what experiences have they had with this?

I went with a Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB drive (WD3200KS) to expand my XL100. They have good all round performance and are very quiet. WD seem to be paying attention to minimising accoustics and thermal output lately. Most happy with my purchase.

I was debating about whether to stick with Seagate Barracuda drives like came with my XL100, but the reviews on the web seem to indicate that the newer (bigger) Barracuda's are rather noisy compared to the 250GB versions. Seems like Seagate's dropped the ball.

Check out this review of the Western Digital 500GB drive.

If you want to set up the two new discs in RAID 0 configuration, have a look at THIS THREAD
