There are a lot of rumours that the Xperia 1 III this year is an iterative upgrade, which is very bad timing for Sony considering that this would have been a good year to catch up to competitors and gain market share. This is the list of features that people want:
1. S-Cinetone in Cinema Pro (Rendered video output in HDR).
2. Automatic Mode in Cinema Pro & better stabilisation.
3. Higher video bit-rate & images in 12-bit support
4. Actual 16:9 or 21:9 image sensors instead of 4:3.
5. Higher refresh rate in the display (4K 90/ 120 Hz) & Higher resolution on display (5120*2160).
6. Better Bravia tech (Bravia Core for mobile & Bravia XR for mobile).
7. Improved colour accuracy (Dolby Vision & HDR 10+ display support).
9. Recording in Dolby Vision.
10. Night Mode photography in native camera app at least.
11. All features available in native camera-app (4K 60fps across all lenses, 20fps burst-shot and fast autofocus).
12. All Sony sensors & camera lenses (high-end, larger sensor sizes & improved hardware).
13. Larger battery size.
14. Capable Processor (No second-best i.e. SD870)
15. Lower Prices
16. PS5 Remote-Play
17. PS Now
18. Better native camera app (including HDR photography and video).
19. New Zoom Capabilities.
20. Improved software experiences (separate gallery app, Sony custom skin to android, no camera app crashes, longer software update support etc).
21. Improved 5G connectivity.
22. More storage and ram.
23. Improved display panel tech (newer OLED), better dac in the headphone jack, louder speakers, improved call quality, the speedier opening of camera app etc.
What is rumoured to come in new Xperia 1 III is disappointing:
1. Only 15% brighter display.
2. Small tweaks to pro camera apps including recording in 17:9 DCI capability.
3. 256GB storage and 8GB Ram
4. Similar sensor sizes and camera tech as last year.
5. Snapdragon 870 CPU
6. No improvements to slow motion or return of 960fps.
7. 4500mah battery, not 5000mah as expected by most.
8. No hardware high refresh rate, software-based.
9. Higher pricing at £1299, not lower as other smartphone manufacturers.
10. No night mode, no gallery, same DAC headphone jack, same stereo speakers (no changes), no new Bravia or PS5 capability, no Dolby vision and the main camera app will still be crippled.
