XPERIA 1 mark II randomly doesn't turn on mic and speaker while picking up phone

From time to time when someone is calling and i'm picking up phone, person on the other side doesn't hear me and i don't hear her either. Then when i'm calling back everything is ok i'm able to her that person and speak normally. I noticed that most often this this problem occurs when the phone remains blocked for a long time, but this is also not a rule, because sometimes even a few hours after being locked it is ok, and sometimes it happens half an hour after the phone is blocked.

Does anyone have a similar problem or does this qualify for a service submission?

hello @god107

this might be a bit difficult to fix if it happens randomly, have you noticed this happening before? like before a software update or installing an app?

you can try to run Xperia Tests to make sure that the device hardware works accordingly.

settings> support> Xperia tests (3rd tab on the bottom)

also try to see if the problem is recurring while the device is in safe mode. long tap on power off button,

while in safe mode, if the problem doesn't appear it might mean the problem is most probably softwarewise.

How is the call made, VoIP, network...??

Also locked, blocked....you make little sense..

I take it you mean when the phone has been locked and left for a while, sitting sleeping.

I'd put it down to the network, or their network, as you elude to it being when people phone you.

The call is made through cellular network. My network doesn't support VoLTE, I have Wi-Fi calling turned off and for preferred network type i have 5G/LTE/WCDMA/GSM selected.

Every time i mean locked screen so yeah when i'm leaving phone for a while or locking it by pressing power button and then leaving for some time.

I think that it is not something with my network because problem occurs for incoming calls either from same network or different one. Also peoples complain that it is happening only when they are calling me since i switched the phone. I have been using xperia xz premium before with same network and it didn't happened for 3 years.

All tests from previous answer are passing. I will try to keep phone in safe mode whole day to test if it will happen in safe mode.

I also remember that one time it even happened when i was in my car and had phone connected to car bluetooth, i have picked up call but i heard nothing then person which called made second try and it worked.

I am software developer and i know how difficult can be for service to reproduce that scenario. So it is main reason i wrote this  post to maybe find someone experiencing same or similar issue.

If it's the phone app issue maybe not working with the microphone, since the tests pass and all. You can try and clear the apps storage from settings, from apps & notifications, get the app from the list, then click storage and clear cache and data.

It seems that the sleep state has nothing to do with it, because a moment ago I had the phone in my hand with an active screen and when someone called I could not hear anything again. When I called back it was all ok.

After that i deleted app data and cache, so I will be monitoring if the problem persists.

Also yesterday I installed an update (58.0.A.3.132) in the hope that something will improve, but as you can see the problem persists.

Hi @god107

Did the update work so far?

Nothing changed. Also on safe mode I picked up once and same happens.

I really don't know what to do because I'm afraid that service will just return phone because they will not find any problem as it is happening randomly.

Im sure "phone" app has been updated on the Play Store in the last day or so.

Might be an idea to try that..

Hi, did you try to check if you can "uninstall updates" for the phone application, some apps allow this option.

You can find it in Settings > Apps and notifications > See all apps > Phone app > tap the menu icon on top > If avavailable, select "Uninstall apps". Let us know the outcome.
