App doesn't show full screen on Xperia 5 (version 1)

Hi I have an Xperia 5 and I have a game / app I play. It doesn't show full screen. I accept it is an old app.

Is there a way of forcing it to stretch full screen?

It was better on my old phone (XZ2 Compact).

I get that it is a screen ratio issue but I see that Samsung allow customers to stretch apps full screen...

Yes I it's always been like this on the new (only got the phone this month.
Brand New). See attached image example of how it looks like on my phone.
It's the black space on the right hand side.

Does it happen with all games?

If not you'd better contact the game developers though play store.

No not all games. It is an old app. Last updated in 2017. The developers
won't be releasing an update.

I am probably reliant on Sony to provide a working solution like Samsung
has for its customers.

They probably can't guarantee the function of a third party app with the device, and as the app won't receive any future update, they will just advise to do some troubleshooting steps on the app starting from clearing cache and data until resetting the device to its factory data settings and that is not necessary. and then will advise to contact the app developer.
