Where should I go to ask Sony for minor firmware upgrades/changes? It's a new camera and very good generally but there are a few minor but specific annoyances that would maybe be possible to address in a firmware update.....
Here we go:
1) In video mode, AF is only available in P mode. Can this be extended to other modes (A,S, M) provided the aperture chosen is suitable? As a compromise, how about allowing video AF at apertures other than F3.5? It seems like an arbitrary limitation given the fact the camera will AF from F1.4 to F5.6 quite happily.
2) In video Mode and A mode, I can control the aperture with the 'silent controller' wheel. When I set it to clickless operation, the aperture still moves in discrete steps. Not great. Please allow stepless aperture control. The A Mount lenses all have a smooth aperture with no mechanical steps.
3) IMPORTANT! With so many AF points available, it's very hard to see which AF point you have selected in Flexible Spot Mode. The boxes are drawn with very thin lines in a high-res EVF. Against a dark or cluttered background, the AF boxes and selected AF point are very very hard to see. Suggestion: Make the boxes a bit thicker, maybe with a three or four pixel thickness of alernating 'black-white-black' so they stand out against against *any* background. Make the active/selected point even more obvious. While using the joystick to move between AF points, make the new AF point blink (eg) red or orange just for a second. This will give valuable visual feedback.
4) That's all I want! Except to maybe ask the impossible: Add more Minolta lenses to the Hybrid AF mode. The (discontinued) Sony AF 24-105 is not supported (shame!). I understand this might involve a certain amount of work....
Finally, as I'm feeling cheeky, how about a full frame SSM 24-135/4 lens. It might sell quite well and is a bit of a gap in the Sony A lineup.
I will forward the list to the Sony Team for you.
They are constantly reviewing possible Firmware changes. I will post any replies here for all users to see.
Thanks!
Just to clarify my request about the AF boxes - don't make them all bolder as there are so many, it would obscure the entire EVF! Just make the one 'flexible spot' currently selected stand out a little more. And while using the joystick to move the active af point around the grid, make it easier to see.
Hello...
A firmware update would just make sense, as most cameras recieves updates often enough to be noticed.
Aspects such as difficult to see AF points as noted, AF is locked at 3.5.... assuming this is a mechanical complication. Built in Interval meter just like every other manufacture whom factors this feature into most of there cameras... timelapse is a growing trend, even my phone as it.
Some AF quirks namely AF-C, perhaps some improved coding as i loose focus 4 to 5 frames in a 12 fps burst (target depth focus), notably with my 70-200 G2, it holds no advantage against my 25 year old 80-200 28 minolta lens in terms of aquisition and lowlight AF....considering its a screw drive lens im still bewildered, Laggy shutter and aperture dials... Perhaps include small medium and large RAW option and importantly increase the speed of the EVF sensor, theres Major lag when placing the eye upto the view finder.
most of such requests can be met, after spending $4500 on a Body, we should hope to expect improvements via firmware as a given. PLease SONY, leaving the canon camp for Sony was wise in some aspects, but please dont let A mount be ignord for E mount, my investment is huge.
Thankyou.
