Alpha 100 Error Code 0x56

My A100 gives error code 0x56.

The mirror operates as soon as the camera is switched on, the lens focusses when the shutter button nis pressed but shutter will not fire, but LCD comes up with error code 0x56, and that's it.

Have done a camera reset, replaced battery with a fully charged one, tried a different lens, different memory card, cleaned lens contacts all to no avail.

Any ideas anyone?

Hello lensman - welcome to the Sony Forums

This error message may indicate an internal fault within the camera body itself and because of this, I would advise you to get in touch with Sony Customer Services as they will be able to advise you about how much a repair/service would cost and, if applicable, whether it is covered by the standard manufacturer's warranty (depending upon how long you have had the camera).
