2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Not sure if this was asked before but I've been having some issues when I turn on the tv from standby.

Every time Switch it on from standby it opens the youtube app. Before this it would open the videoplayer (usb/dlna) app when switching on from standby.

There must be something I'm doing wrong. I tried to switch channel to hdmi1 and then go to stamdby and back on again. But still the youtube app is started.

So I guess my question is: how do I control what channel/input/app is started when switching the tv on from standby.

Model is a 2015 KD 55x8505c

Same thing has been happening to mine. Thought it was something I must have done.

Hi,  i have had that the last few days, I run my SKY HD via XB1 into amp then out to the tv and it seemed to be causing the issue when i shut off the tv when the youtube app wa sthe last thing used. The tv can be set to defualt to a certain HDMI when the 'TV' button is clicked so it suprised me when it did this. I just hard reset and it cleared it but recently been getting so many reboots or sound undefaulting from Amp back to telly im getting fed up.

I have the tv button configured to go to hdmi1. That is working perfectly.

My first idea was that it would open either the last input or app that was open when the tv was set to standby. But that would mean the tv had to open hdmi 1 if it was at hdmi1 when going to standby. So that is not working either.

The only devices connected are my SetopBox on hdmi1, my ps4 on hdmi2 and my ps3 on hdmi3.

Anyone else who can tell me why my youtube app is opened everytime my tv is switched on from standby?

8.2Gb With around 6.2Gb free for apps. You find it in Settings... Storage and Reset.

The Dutch Sony site has System updates with serial 2333 rather than the 2287 on the uk site. I've installed it from USB on my machine and can't see any difference. It may help people who are waiting for an update to wipe little errors.

https://www.sony.nl/support check for your model but its probably

That's interesting, dated 27/08/2015

What kernel and Android version does it install?

Does it have any effect on the Netflix sound sync issue?

seems to only state:

 Benefits and improvements:

Solves the problem of restarting the TV when using the CI + module

Restrictions: Only for use with televisions sold in Europe. The different models are not sold in all countries

Sony has long announced that catch up TV and HDD recording are due to be provided in an upgrade in Summer 2015. This seemed a bit vague but I was pleased also to find that, in UK, Summer ends on 21st September every year.....so there are only 10 more days to wait 🙂
