2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Tell us more, I have been offered a longer warranty or a full refund.

What have they offered as I would say most of us who have had these issues are also entitiled.  (Make sure you bank you compensation quickly)

So, now I've got the settlement, I'm happy to share. Sony have given me £150 compensation for all the inconvenience caused, and John Lewis agreed a full refund, so I have a nice new Samsung being delivered Friday.  It's a shame, I've owned Sony TVs, hi-fi, Blu Ray, sound processors, etc. for many many years, and this experience has really dented my confidence in the brand.

And I see that the press have now picked up on the problem - http://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2016/08/16/sony-tvs-fail-with-key-new-4k-source-but-a-fix-is-...

@chrgray

thanks for sharing

I suggest everyone goes and asks for the same.  I will be if I can get around the fact they want the sound bar back as well.

Does that suggest they're waiting for the Marshmallow update to fix the juddering?

Hi all.  I bought my x850c last June, just after it came out.  65" and now attached to the wall...

Sky Q is due to be installed on Monday.  Now that Sony have said it will take 3 months for the fix I want a refund so I can buy a TV that supports Sky.

I have extended warranty for 5 years.  I have all the documentation etc for it of course, but I no longer have the box.

Does anyone think I have a case for a refund?  Surely I do have, considering this is a known issue now?  I guess I would buy one of those generic boxesto return it in.

(I'd also get richer sounds to remove it from the wall and replace with a shiny new Samsung or LG)

I will call them tomorrow so if anyone has any advice I'd apprecite it.

Thanks

Paul

don’t worry about the box. If they do refund they will collect it without the box if needed. (I have had my TV swapped 4 times in 1 year)

I don’t think you will get a refund easily, but try.  Have you already reported other faults.  do you have other issues, that they have not fixed?

The more issues you have that they can’t fix or have no plans to fix, increases you chances.

@Garymjh i stillhavenot seen the judder. When do othes experience it?

I am set on UHD on sky q silver box and mainly watching HD channels with no issues. Been on several hours over the olympics. I have played the 4k content and its fine so far but have not watched past 20 mintues or 4k.

When do people see their issues? I must be lucky for once with the TV! fingers crossed...

Did everybody speaking about juddering issues with sky only or with any 4K source, including bluray?
