49XD8088 Poor Youtube quality

Hi Guys,

As above I'm getting awful quality video playback when using youtube - loads of strange barcode type pixelation and strange areas of image breakup/shading. This happens regardless of video and playback qaulity. YouTube playback is fine via iphone/ipad/pc connected wirelessly in the same house.

Got some examples here:

https://youtu.be/uy9mnBw5S3M

https://youtu.be/s4poCCpjcis  (might need to watch the whole clip as it gets worse)

I'm also watching 4k (HDR?) on netflix/amazon through the telly with no problems...

I've got the telly hooked up via ethernet to the Virgin Media Router which is connected to a 60mbps fiber connection.

So far I've tried:

Firmware update

Full factory reset

Clear Youtube app cache

Sony support isn't really that helpful, any ideas folks?

Thanks!

HI there

In the advanced picture settings, can you experiment with enabling "Random Noise Reduction" and "Digital Noise Reduction" and see if it works or helps.

Do you have any other customised picture settings ?

Cheers

Don;t get me wrong but I've tried to play the first video (https://youtu.be/uy9mnBw5S3M) from my Mac and it is a mess indeed. White rectangles appearing, pixelation, noise. Here an example:

Is it what you're getting?

Hi yes that's exactly what I'm getting

Seems strange that it's only youtube, netflix and amazon are perfect....

Ok, but that's that particular video. The screenshot is from my computer, not the television. It seems to me that the video has been badly converted inside YouTube. Then if you watch in on television it looks even worse due to the much larger screen.

What you should do is to search for "4k HDR" videos and watch those ones at full resolution (2160p). If they show fine (as I suspect they will) the television is ok.

Ah sorry I see the confusion!

Try the first video from the BBC Graham Norton show. It is literally happening to a lesser / worse degree on any video

Ok got home and recorded a better example:

Here's the original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXcFGgwP1J4

And here's what it looks like on my TV - can you see the problem now?

Cheers in advance for any advice!

Hmm.. yeah, that looks pretty bad. I'd suggest to try to uninstall any YouTube update (if any and possible), but since you wrote that you already did a factory reset I doubt it would change anything. Does it happen only with YouTube? If it happens with other video apps I'm afraid the tv is defective.

Actually, now that I think about that. Try to install Kodi. It comes with an YouTube plug-in as well (which must be enabled and configured. You can also use your YouTube account). You may see if it works fine from there, just for testing purposes.

Just out of curiosity @adam_b82: if you select the HQ icon on the TV Youtube app, which resolution is selected?

Hi I have the exact same problem with youtube on our 4k hdr Sony bravia I've contacted support but the reply I got they were passing it onto a specialist team which I'm guessing they don't know what the problem is I've factory reset reinstalled youtube done full 4k and still same problem I thought it was maybe a codec or something but nothing was shouting out in the play store I don't know what else to do now other than try return the TV only got it beginning of December I recently tried a mii box 3 and that played absolutely fine with youtube vids and that was only 50 quid , anyway let me know if you get a fix..
