Apple TV4K no longer switches off 55XF90 after update to v6.7140

Title says it all pretty much - the Apple TV has the ability to sleep itself and the connected TV, either automatically or when triggered from the ATV remote. Prior to the firmware update to v6.7140 on my 55XF90, this worked exactly as expected - the ATV could wake the TV from sleep, and also sleep it when required. Now, the ATV can wake the TV as before, but when trying to sleep, the TV does not switch off. When sleeping both devices using the Sony remote, it works as expected.

Looking at the new settings menu for Bravia Sync, it seems like there is an option to allow the Sony remote to sleep connected devices, and for connected devices to wake the TV, but no option for connected devices to sleep the TV. Has this functionality been removed? If so, please add it back! Or is this a bug that I can do something to fix?

Cheers!

AFAIK no CEC device connected to a tv switch it off, it is normally the opposite since it is presumable that if you turn off the tv you won't use anymore the attached device, not the contrary...

The Apple TV was very much able to switch my TV off, as it was doing so more than happily for the past month, between me purchasing it and doing the update to the latest Sony firmware. Similarly, there is a section in Apple's documentation that brings attention to it - 'Turn off your TV or receiver'. I have been through the troubleshooting steps on Apple's support with no luck, but the fact that it stopped working after the firmware update would suggest it is to blame.

I'm also having issues in general with the new firmware, where my TV is crashing before doing a full reboot by itself. Maybe I need to do a factory reset on the new firmware, or try installing it again. I wish Sony would let you revert firmware to an older version for this reason.

I confess I do not have an Apple tv and never had it, but if you look at the documentation you linked it works like I said. You may note that switching on and switching off are two separate section

Turn on your TV or receiver and switch to the correct HDMI

To turn on your TV or receiver and automatically switch to the correct HDMI input, just wake your Apple TV

Turn off your TV or receiver

Press and hold Apple TV App/Home  to bring up Control Center, then select Sleep.

Before using your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote to control your TV or receiver, clear the path between your remote and the front of your television or receiver.

It seems to me that it works much like SkyQ set top box: it sends via remote the signal to turn the tv off, not via CEC. But I may be wrong.

Fair enough. Either way, it worked before and now it doesn't. I just factory reset the TV and the issue is not resolved. It's only a minor issue, but it's annoying that I now have to have the Sony remote around, whereas before I could just use the AppleTV remote from beginning to end.

Maybe, for some reason that i don't know, simply the Apple remote is no longer connected to the sony tv so you should try something on the Apple side

Yes, possibly. I will factory reset the ATV as well tomorrow, and maybe try different HDMI cable etc.

If my assumptions are right changing the HDMI cable won't be needed, resetting the ATV may help instead

Right, reset TV, AppleTV and tried changing HDMI cable, just to be thorough. Unfortuantely still no luck. Who knows why it doesn't feel like working anymore

Maybe a different approach is key here, it could be that CEC/Bravia Sync was turned off. Have you tried making sure it's enabled on the TV (under Watching TV - External Inputs - BRAVIA Sync Settings) and contacting Apple support for the box?
