Dark Scenes - Banding/Pixelation on KD55XE8596

I'm having a real problem with my TV during dark scenes/night scenes etc.

Really bad halo/ring pixelation is showing and the picture looks really noisy.

I'll include photos from a recent blu-ray watch but it basically happens during every dark scene and for a 4k/HDR upscaling TV I expect better for BluRay and HD pictures.

One old post I came across suggested it could be a faulty panel?

Please help as this is driving me nuts!

This issue is soo annoying.. I spent 1300 pound on this TV for this issue to be present from day one. I have messed around with the settings but nothing makes this issue any better. This needs to be fixed asap

I just thought I would upgrade this with the following.

So i contacted Sony about this issue and there have just got back to me with the following statement and this is copy and pasted from the email.

I am having the same issues with a KD55AF8, been in touch with Sony and done everything they suggested but no change. To improve quality on recordings from Sky Q, I have to keep changing the mode to standard/home movie etc.. Not ideal. Issue is much worse for Sky Q recordings. Please help.

Same issues for me on my AF8. Not the top spec but still £1500 worth of TV that has this issue is poor. Its like back to the 80s with my C64! Sort it out Sony!

Are you sure you want to judge the tv quality against a streaming service? Have you any evidence of the quality of the source?

Hey Hoover2112, do you have pics of the issue? You have an OLED, so it might be a completely different thing. Also, try something basic as unplugging the TV from the mains for few minutes while removing any external device and see what happens.

Sorry I'm a bit late to the party.
I've been having the same problem and finally found time to twiddle with the picture settings.
Now, normally, I'd go with the setups that are available in t'InterWeb but I have to admit that I've been deviating to get a better picture for me, with my TV, in it's current state.
I may be making other problems that I'll see later but I found the following to vastly improve the banding:
Gamma: Was -2, now Min
Advanced Contrast Enhancement: Was Off, now Medium

Hey The_Geek, are these settings available in developer mode? Also, what's the model number of your TV?

I'd noticed similar banding in dark areas before but only just got around to investigating.

I've got my picture settings as Custom, started off with the settings from an AV website but it may be that the TV is now 8 years old but I've had to tweak them a bit.

Try to check this one, and learn more about it, it'll help you greatly when trying to adjust the picture settings and quality.
