Difference between XH85 and XH91 series ???

while looking for a 43" sony, and nearly settling on the 43XH8505, I came across a 43XH9196 which doesn't seem to appear on Sony's websites (other than a minor reference at the top of the XH85 page where 91 is in brackets).

It only appears on Currys websites and the only difference I can find is that Motionflow XR is 1000 Hz as opposed to 800hz.

A different model just for this?  Could it be specific to Currys?  They have the 8505 model as well for the same price.

thanks!

Specification are still not available but should be a completely different model spotting FALD VA panel, HDMI 2.1 with 4k@120fps and a renewed Mediatek SoC.

Thanks Rooobb.  I'm note sure though - they are both available now, and the quoted specs on the currys ad are identical barring the 1000 vs 800hz.  And same price.

Hi @sonyxh85xh91   Without the full specifications it is impossible to say. But in general terms the 8 series usually have an ISP panel and the 9 series have a VA panel. The VA panel is far superior with blacker blacks etc. Also the higher the number the better/newer the components. To me it is a no brainier, take the 91.

Thanks SonyUser30Yrs.

Yes, seems to make sense alright, but I am in Ireland and Curry's IE don't yet have the euro equivalent of £100 off offer yet so I will have to wait. Knowing my luck, the offer will go, or Currys will realise that the 9 model should be dearer! It's funny though that Sony don't have this 9 model specified other than a minor reference on the 8 series page.

Hello! I’ve been trying to find this too, I even asked Sony on Twitter, but they came back comparing the XH85 to the XH81.. Only thing I’ve found is that both models share the same manual: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/5014/3fbfb4b5a891732284513072bd54ad36/50148131M...

I wonder whether it’s one of those Curry’s only things but they’ve marked the price wrong or something..

Sony told me the model was not out yet (after trying to insist I was talking
about the 8196 model rather than 9196).

I rang Currys Uk and they said they had it in stock, but they don’t deliver
to Ireland and the Currys IE site doesn’t have the £100 offer.

In the end I purchased the 8505 model in Ireland with the £100 off – total
of £849 which is as good as I think will be got right now.

I had a response from Sony:

Sorry for the confusion. After further checks, we can confirm that the HX9196 is a Currys's exclusive model, which is why it doesn't appear on our website. The only difference is indeed related to MotionFlow as you mentioned earlier.

So you’re not missing much with the XH85, especially if you turn MotionFlow off. Enjoy!

Yep, not concerned.  At least Sony finally accept the other model exists!

Not even sure where Motionflow is needed to be honest, but I suspect I won't notice the difference between 800 and 1000 anyway!

I have the XH8505 and it's night and day compared to its older XF8505 sibling. Few things that stand out....

- Boots from Power Off in around quarter of the time

- Remote control isn't buggy as hell

- Apps load way faster

- Apple Airplay support

- eARC port (can finally output proper Atmos sound, etc)

- Even though it's still a fairly standard edge lit panel, I find the clarity and colour is waaay better (with Dolby Vision support too)
