Firmware install problem

I have a sony kd-49x8309c and having bad problems trying to up-date my firmware by u.s.b.

I have the file.........pkg3.925 off the sony site under my registered TV so its the right one.

What i have done.

Downloaded file to p.c then unzipped it to Desktop.

Open u.s.b drive and format it them drag the file(whole yellow folder whats un-zipped) to u.s.b.

Take the u.s.b drive and put it into t.v (site says plug it in and follow instructions )

Nothing pops up for me to follow.

It can see the u.s.b drive as its in the storage/reset page under setting.

my t.v is connected to the internet but still says PKG3.885.0137EUB and says my t.v is upto date.

Doing it by u.s.b i can get the new PGK3.925 update now to this firmware.

Thanks.........I have put another Message on here but it was not just about Firmware.

can i just say a big thank you to all that have helped and at last i can say i have solved it.

U.S.B stick at fault, although it worked on laptop and works on t.v going through storage/reset on setting and it was there it would not Auto pop up for the file to install so got a cheap Sandisk stick only 16gb for £5 and workd first time.

...............This forum is a massive help...........Its a shame the update didnt solve the Blootooth earphones

                                                                       to connect to sony t.v's.

THANKS

Hi

OTA update might appear later on server according to your region, thats why you don't see this.

Try different USB formatting. Do this flash on FAT32 and try using again. If no success try different USB flashes formatted on FAT32.

Sometimes(happened with previous firmwares), you must Restart your TV(pressing at least 5 seconds Power button) and with USB flash remaining on USB port. Check also if you are using the right port for flashing.

1. The USB should contain the .pkg only, not the folder. So on your Desktop open the folder first and drag the .pkg file only to the root of an empty USB stick.

2. With the TV on insert the USB stick into the 3.0 USB socket (blue centre). If the update starts then follow the screen instructions. If it doesn’t automatically start go to 3.

3. Leave the USB inserted with the TV on and then hold down the power button on the remote (10 seconds plus) until the TV reboots then it should enter the update sequence when it comes back on.

i have just updated my KD-43X8305C using the method above (I needed to do stage 3.).

Thanks for the reply.

This is what i have done and still nothing pops up on the screen.

1...got u.s.b drive and format it in p.c so blank, put just the file onto the u.s.b stick (just 1 white file) which was on the desktop of my p.c when i unziped it.

2....plug the u.s.b into the u.s.b port (u.s.b3 with blue middle) and nothing again.

3....tried the holding down power button with u.s.b still in for 10 sec and t.v reboots but nothing pops up again.

....i went into setting and storage/reset and it has the u.s.b drive there so i pressed it and just comes up

saying calculating amount or something so the t.v can see the u.s.b drive.

Is there something not turned on because it just don't pop up or is it because im connected to the internet.

i have also ordered a new u.s.b stick, also i format the drive on my p.c not on t.v.

Any help on this would be great,i think i will have to just wait until it comes direct onto the t.v,i would like

to solve it and do it by u.s.b.

To be honest i'm getting a bit fed up with sony t.v's as i have had bugs after bugs with this and stuff what wont work.

I someone can be kind to put the exact link to the download which i think i have right anyway it solves that side.

It dont seem to be seeing the file on the card.

Thanks a lot to all for the help upto now.

The single file in the root of your USB stick should have the name sony_dtv0FA50A09A0A9_00014100_0f55008c.pkg

The instructions I provided do work as I have only just used them to update two TVs.

Well mine don't,is there anything that could stop the t.v seeing the file when i plug it in like some sort of setting and is it the right way to drag the file into the u.s.b folder as the u.s.b drive is empty.

Be sure to unzip the file you download from the Sony web site, first. After unzipping it the .pkg file should be inside a directory. That file must be copied into the USB key/drive in the top directory. Just drag and drop it in the drive icon from File Explorer. Then plug the USB key into the TV and reboot (it isn't necessary but usually it works immediately) the TV.

I do thank you a lot for trying to help on this,i unzip the file onto the desktop which is a large white file that i drag onto my u.s.b stick then plug it into the t.v and then i turn t.v off then on but it dont pick up the file whats on the u.s.b stick, the file takes about 15min to put from laptop to u.s.b stick.....1.42 gig.

Ging to try another u.s.b stick but i don't think its this as t.v cane see it when i open the storage in setting.

After reading the struggle story, and made all the same steps myself,  i did following steps (it was at least attempt #15):

- Format USB to exFAT (as this sony models recognize fat12/fat16/fat32/exfat)

- download & unzip file

- copy paste single ...pkg file on to usb

- plug usb-stick in to USB3 (blue) port

- wait for messages.... nothing happened

- press power button on the back of tv-set for 5+ sec.

- TV reboots

- in about ~1 min tv recognizes USB ad in another 30 sec upgrade starts

sucess.

best luck.
