HT X8500
I’ve been trying to work out how to get atmos on my soundbar. I’ve read the manuals (they are confusing) so my question is I brought a new Sony tv KD-55XH8196 so I could use the atmos on my soundbar after a few weeks of getting more confused than when I started 🤯 I need some help (keep it simple i get confused easily 🤣) the tv has an arc hdmi port is this why I can’t get atmos? does it need to be eArc?

It would normally require eARC for Dolby TrueHD, but this soundbar uses the Vertical Surround Engine, make sure it's turned On and set to Dolby Speaker Virtualizer (Manual page 22).
Hope this helps!

Thank you, if it’s playing dolby atmos would the light be on. I’ve tried playing the film 1917 4K uhd via prime the sound is pretty amazing but the only lights that are on are tv and vertical S. I can’t seem to get the light on dolby or DTS X

Check page 39 of the same link, maybe eARC is required for the light to turn On (since it seems to indicate Dolby TrueHD).
