Infinite initial setup loop

Hello,

My 4K Sony (model KD-55X8005C) is stuck on the initial setup screen and goes back to the Welcome (the screen where you're asked to pick a language) screen in an infinite loop after choosing any of the two options on the Location (the screen where it asks you whether you want to share the location with Google) screen after I did a settings reset.

I've googled this issue and found many people who have experienced the same exact issue (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zf9JFNk_ju0 & https://community.sony.com/t5/4K-Ultra-HD-TV/Stuck-with-initial-setup-screens-on-my-Sony-Bravia-4k-A... & https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/45sw8t/sony_android_tv_saferecovery_mode/).

I have tried factory resetting the device (holding down the power button on the TV together with the up arrow on the remote control), installing a fresh firmware via a USB drive (it told me the firmware is already up to date and I couldn't find a way to force it to continue) but nothing seemed to work!

Is there a solution to this bug?

@MiCal1967 then why does it log me in successfully? -> http://i.imgur.com/zAT2hbu.jpg

The Developer Options were actually enabled on the TV when it was working!

Yes I see this is logged in but cannot understand why it does not continue. Sometimes I have seen succesfull login in Mail accounts that do not continue if some more information is not provided by the user.

What I say are just suggestions.

Here are the only oldies I found:

UK

or
EU

I did not understand that you are now in Moldova. Your set has a previous UK firmware? If so try firstly the UK one.

Sony personel are not allowed to speak. Mercy.

@MiCal1967 tried both - nada 😞

I'm seriously very frustrated I can't simply reset it to factory settings. It looks like an Android/software glitch and it's wasted me almost a week in trying to find a solution. I can't ship it back to the country I bought it from (UK) because all the shipping costs back and forth will cost me as a new TV 😞

Hi @aoriol

The best thing I can suggest is to wait for Sony response at Quinnicus request: "escalated this to Sony Support in the hopes that they can help and reverse the decision on 'not under uk warranty..."

Maybe someone from xda-developers could help you with USB or network connection and ADB fastboot reboot

I found another YouTube video with the same issue - this looks to be an extremely widespread issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBdXOzxKjlo

Disappointed in Sony.

Thanks @MiCal1967, step 2 booted it in safe mode, but the loop occurs either way.

Step 1 refers to cases when you have access to the menu.

The funny thing is that I can play Spotify on the TV through my computer, so the OS is active under the hood. What a stupid glitch! Is there really no way to hard reset the Android?

I think step one is just the soft reboot. Hold the power OFF/ON for five seconds.

I also read that USB second port must be used for ADB. Not all ports offer the ADB USB connection:

Step 2 worked? Were are the EU Sony geniuses? The do not mention the way to Enter but just the way to Exit

Tried all ports, no devices found in ADB.

Just got this reply from Sony Support:

"In regards to your enquiry, please be advised that the UK warranty only applies in UK, and cannot be claimed over seas.

Also, on this occasion and in view of your particular case, based on the supplied information, sadly we are unable to offer goodwill."

<Edited by moderator> great! I think I will set it on fire and never touch a Sony product again!
