Infinite initial setup loop

Hello,

My 4K Sony (model KD-55X8005C) is stuck on the initial setup screen and goes back to the Welcome (the screen where you're asked to pick a language) screen in an infinite loop after choosing any of the two options on the Location (the screen where it asks you whether you want to share the location with Google) screen after I did a settings reset.

I've googled this issue and found many people who have experienced the same exact issue (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zf9JFNk_ju0 & https://community.sony.com/t5/4K-Ultra-HD-TV/Stuck-with-initial-setup-screens-on-my-Sony-Bravia-4k-A... & https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/45sw8t/sony_android_tv_saferecovery_mode/).

I have tried factory resetting the device (holding down the power button on the TV together with the up arrow on the remote control), installing a fresh firmware via a USB drive (it told me the firmware is already up to date and I couldn't find a way to force it to continue) but nothing seemed to work!

Is there a solution to this bug?

I bought this TV model KD65X8500C 2 days ago. After a new software update (PKG2.587.0017PAB), I did a Initial Setup once more because of this error message "google play service stopped unexpectedly" message came out often. This is when the nightmare began. Everything I tried to do the setup ...

Hey @Anonymous, thanks for replying. I did try that earlier, it didn't work.

@MiCal1967 tried most possabilities, even tried above mentioned methods in safe mode, no change.

UPDATE: Tried something new, connected laptop to internet (via WiFi) and connected TV & laptop (via ethernet) and allowed sharing of internet.

After first few tries, it showed signs of connecting to Google. Then it actually logged into the Google account. Started asking for location settings now, not able to proceed futher though.

Adb is "wireless only" so you need WiFi connection to :

fastboot -w

and

fastboot reboot

I don't know if it works the way of your connection. Try installing Android Studio and execute these commands.

Hi @firefly414

Which country are you located in?

However from previous experience with others having this problem, they have need to contact Sony Support in order to arrange a repair.

Cheers

The problem is, we purchased the TV from the city and transported it ourselves to our home which is 600KMs away, just wanted to try all the options before we think of transporting it again.

Hi there

Yes, the details in your link states:

"IMPORTANT: This software is only for use with the products identified and sold in Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Middle East & Africa, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand or Vietnam. Not all models are sold in all countries."

Cheers

Yeah, but I am in doubt because of its size, its 1.3GB, is that usual ? I thought firmware updates were small ones maybe under 100MB. Can you please verify once, want to be sure before i start the process. Thanks alot.

The high file size for Android updates is nornal.  So yes, 1.3GB does sound right.  Part of the large file size is because it includes all of the previous updates too.
