KD-75XE8596 cracked on its own hanging on the wall - anyone else?

Hi.

2 weeks ago, my little over 1 year old TV literally cracked on its own, just hanging on the wall.

I am a trader and it hangs above my desk on the wall, displaying charts when I am in front of the computer.

One evening vertical lines started appearing in the middle of the screen, at first it was just a couple, but after 10 min or so, those lines were taking up 1-2 inches of space in the middle of the screen.
I turned it off and dismounted it from the wall a few days later with the help of my brother, taking as much care dismounting as we did mounting the thing when I first got it.

It was mounted on a professional Deltaco unit, that's rated for up to 50kg (TV weighs 34). The mount has been used for my previous TV, and my 55" LG that's now hanging there, while I figure this Sony business out...

I contacted Sony and of course they are using the physical damage to absolve them of any warranty on the unit.

I found this guy: https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/sony-bravia-xbr75x850e-tv-screen-cracked-on-its-own/
Who had the same issue, just with a different model and he got it replaced with Sony. As I asked the rep about that, he just said, it's another model and they aren't aware of any issues with their screens cracking on their own.

Does anyone else have any experience with this very thing happening?

I found 20 or so people over 6 different threads experiencing the same thing, but it looks like most of them just gave up talking to Sony.

Hi @da9el84, welcome to the community.

We've not seen one of these cracked screen issues for a while but they can be difficult to resolve, as you've noted. Did you take out an extended warranty?

Hi Mick.

I haven't no. In Denmark you have 2 years warranty by law, but getting Sony to accept this as a faulty display is hard, and I can see why. This type of damage is usually seen with the screen being hit or pressed, but my screen is literally hanging above a desk(above another monitor) never having contact with anything aside from the mount.

Hi @da9el84   Is it a Sony mount?

Hi da9el84

It's true that the pattern of the lines indicates physical damage and I find it hard to imagine that anyone would look at that picture and not come to the same conclusion.

Unfortunately, not much can be done about this except maybe booking the TV for repair via a Sony authorized repair centre to have it physically inspected by an engineer, at which point, one of the following scenarios will happen:

  1. Physical damage is confirmed, so you will either pay inspection fees or pay the repair fees (out of warranty) (this is the most likely outcome so you have to be ready for it).
  2. If the inspection proves the issue isn't caused by misuse, you may be able to make a warranty claim based on the inspection report by contacting Sony.

Apart from that, you can just consider buying a new TV to replace this one and call it a day.
