KE-48A9 recording failure effects

I have a 1TB SSD that recorder registers as 931gb free

There is nothing in my recording list

there is nothing in the reminder list

there is 0 recordings

the tv records a random channel every day @ 19:47 ending 20:47

the recording errors and produces 20 + entries in the recording error list

these errors cannot be deleted (attempt produces an error)

when this occurs the digital channels fail

they cannot be changed via any means ( choices from epg or up down remote select)

prior to this time ( I assume on change of day) they work fine from you view or free view guides

I have factory reset tv to no change

i have deregisted and re registered hdd to no effect

any ideas from the hive minds on this?

That's an interesting one then, well done.

I can't just figure out what is going on with that... should you try again... only you can answer that one.

Had you used the record feature successfully in the past before this happened or was this the first attempt using it? Very odd!

Going to add that if you do want to try this again then it might be worth doing a retune (not a reset) with no aerial connected. Doing that should clear all the channel place holders... maybe something weird with the channel memory remains after a 'reset'. Clearing 'placeholders' as they are called is something that has cropped up in the past for other issues.

Having done a retune with no aerial, reconnect the aerial and retune again.

I formatted a 1TB hdd on win 10 and registered it on the tv successfully. I then did a test recording of a single program from the epg on freeview. Seems to go ok  - blue marker against the program in the guide etc. watched it back later ok deleted it from list and selected some other programs to record (note : never select anything from channel 39)

some were series and I noted the record list had put into the list an entry something to do with “searching for new episodes” I selected a number of series that may have overlapp in time but can’t be sure. Some daily programs some weekly - don’t know how many, maybe four programs plus a couple of spur of the moment films I wanted to keep as I watched them - all possible on my old Virgin box

I noticed however a few series would be maybe starting to record the las 10 mins and most of the next program so deleted then from the record list and that’s where the trouble started- no digital channels an the tv constantly recording (actually recording nothing but reporting such) so I deleted all the requests for recording but the problem persisted wit nothing in any list.
The tv would switch to channel 39 at 19:47 and any other channels just disappeared: blank screen no audio and that situation would last for maybe 22 hours through power off, unplug, factory reset, deregister and revival of hdd,  force stop of apps - nothing worked to stop this ghost recording in the system.
I had a bright idea when I deleted the channel is was so say recording as it cured the fault - digital tv now ok and no spurious messages about “feature not available while recording”

I haven’t tried re-registering the hdd and trying again or rescanning channels to bring back 39 yet - maybe experiment tonight 😱

Well well well

After four days of working perfectly well I watched a channel4 half hour program on catch up stream (via Sony select loading 4 app) pressed Tv button at end and bang the problem is back - no digital channel output.

decided to do suggested retune with aerial disconnect- at finish all channels showed “no information”

pluged aerial back in and immediately got channels working without retune - it obviously didn’t work as I expected and it didn’t forget channels

ah well

more info if it happens again

Its very weird and certainly not behaving as you would expect with regard to resets and retunes. It seems like a lot of information is being retained in what is called NVM or non volatile memory but its bizarre that full factory resets do not delete all this.

I think you do need to get Sony involved and perhaps point them at this thread which has followed a very logical progression of what really happens.

Yup, I also think the greatest mystery to me so far is how does it manage to keep the info every time you try a factory reset whether it's for the TV or the HDD itself. But at least we've gotten somewhere and now it started recording some content!

Nooooo

I’ve taken away the hdd completely (de-registered and removed) and the recording list is blank but it swaps to channel 39 dmax at exactly 19:47 says it’s recording 🤷‍♀️ (produces errors) and subsequently blanks all digital channels for about 20 hours (they do come back eventually)

On a whim I had, I deleted channel 39 but it still does it

factory reset / channel retune doesn’t effect anything

the errors persist and channel 39 doesn’t reappear

Well that doesn't sound good...

Just to be sure on this, when you tried the resets you are doing this:

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/televisions-projectors-oled-tvs-android-/ke-48a9/articles...

I would also try the Manual Forced Reset' using the button on the TV as well. Detailed on that same page.
