Muting TV plus extra problems

We have a Bravia TV KD43XF8505 and have it hard wired (through the headphone jack) to a HEOS speaker for the benefit of a richer sound.  Prior to having to do a factory reset yesterday, we had managed (18 mths or so ago), to set the TV and speaker up so that we could mute both the TV and HEOS via the mute button on the TV remote.  Unfortunately, since doing the reset, we cannot seem to set it up in the same manner, memory failure or subsequent system updates seem to be causing the problem (probably the former!!).

Anyhow, if anyone is able to suggest how we could achieve this, we would be most grateful.  We have been into Settings and Sound and tried various permutations, however nothing we have tried so far has been successful.

Dear Joe

Thanks so much for your reply.

We had another think and went back into the Sound settings to check what you suggested, we found we already had the Audio Output set to TV Speakers and although it did as you suggest and mute the TV, it did not mute the speaker as well, whether that was because of how we had the other settings I am unsure.  Anyhow, the good news is that we have found a solution, we changed the A/V Synch setting from auto to On - Always adjust audio and video timing and this worked.  It is a relief, it is so much easier to just have one thing to press when the phone rings to turn everything off!

Thanks again for your post though, it is good to know the community is there when you run out of ideas, talent and patience.

I believe the Headphone jack output automatically mutes the TV anyways, but you can make sure the audio output is set to TV Speakers (under Settings - Display & Sound - Speakers), then try muting the TV and see what happens.

PS: If you can't find the settings path, you're probably not on the latest software version (v6.7140).
