Sony Bravia System Update

My Sony Bravia TV had a system update on 19/07/2019 & since then, the TV has been completely hopeless, to the point where I threaten to throw it out of the window. When I turn it on, I'm taken into the APP screen & have to try & get into the TV, sometimes this works, usually not. After several attempts, I manage to watch a TV channel, just the 3, as soon as I move onto another channel, I am faced with a black screen, which I can't move away from, can't turn the TV off, can't do anything, except curse the stupid upgrade. When the TV finally shows signs of doing something, it usually goes back to the original start-up screen where you get the 'android' start up logo & the TV channel then works.

Heartened, I move to another channel, only to have the same thing happen again. I'm 54 years old, given there's a 'billion' channel, I'll need to live to 120 years old, just to get every channel installed.

This can't be how the 'system upgrade' was supposed to work & frankly, I haven't seen any benefits to my TV viewing so far.

Is anyone else having similar problems & if so, have you resolved them & how?

Thank you

Hi @RJeffries

As a starting point would you please let us have the full model number of your TV. It will start with KD.

It is not uncommon, that a Reset or a Factory Reset will be required after a software update. You could also try a power reboot. Unplug it from the mains, remove all connections and leave it off for 5 minutes before switching it back on.

If that fails to help with your problem, then I would contact Sony UK Support

Apologies for the delay in responding, the model No is KD-43XF80xx.

I'll reboot it tomorrow evening if it continues to play up tomorrow.

Thank you

Have been experiencing problems with my Google photos account as can't play back any movies. Keep on getting error message please try later. Up until I downloaded the NEW software NEVER had any issues

It's the same with me. The TV has become absolute trash, after the update.

The model is KD-XE8096

I have the same problems. TV running very slow, cannot change channel. Cannot turn TV off easily. Cannot log into my Google account. I am now using my Samsung TV, which actually works - you turn on the TV, watch programmes, change channels. The Sony seems to be trapped in Android hell - nothing works and painfully slow.  The issue (in my opinion) is the software, not the TV. I think Sony need to resolve this across the board, not just individual cases.

Hi, I'm still having lots of problems, it took 15 minutes for a picture to appear after turning the TV on, then couldn't change channels, then it gave me rebooted & gave me the Apps start up screen, it's still hopeless, still it's unlikely to be a problem when Sony supply me a new replacement TV as this 1 is only 7 months old!! A TV that hasn't worked properly for 2 weeks nearly - not acceptable

Jeg har præcis de samme problemer, som andre har beskrevet.

For what it's worth, my XBR-43X800D was having similar problems.

I had been hesistant to update my TV. The last time I updated the OS on my TV (a couple of years ago), they introduced a bug that would pop up an "Activate Samba" notification that I couldn't dismiss. After trying several things to fix the problem, I ended up doing a factory reset and turning off automatic updates. I barely used any of the TV's features anyway.

Then a few months ago, I started getting notifications every time I started up the TV to encourage me to update the TV again. Having learned my lesson, I would dismiss it and go about my business.

After a few months of playing whack-a-mole every time I turned on the TV, I accidentally hit the wrong button on the remote and the TV started its update. What a costly mistake that was.

After updating the TV, every time I turned it on with the remote it would take several minutes to boot Android. Then after awhile, it stopped responding to the remote altogether and refused to start up unless I unplugged it for a minute and plugged it in again.

Not only that, even after it finally booted up, if I had a USB stick in the USB port it would take a few more minutes to find it, at which point the TV would pop up the USB stick management screen and interrupt whatever I was watching (TV, blu-ray etc) to let me know.

I got to the point where I was ready to throw it out the window.

Then a few days ago, it just started working again. I didn't do anything on my end - I hit the remote and it turned on. I'm assuming (fingers crossed) that they finally fixed the bugs. Here's hoping it stays that way.

I gotta say Sony, I am really disappointed in how these updates have rolled out; I specifically bought a Sony because I was hoping there wouldn't be as much bloatware as a Samsung or an LG, but I'm not sure I made the right decision. I'm old enough to remember TVs that just worked, before they turned into crappy computers.
