SWF-BR100 stopped working after Android 9 update

Can anyone help?

After the recent update to Android TV 9.0 on my Bravia KD-49XD8305 it appears it will no longer support the dongle that connects to the Subwoofer. It has worked perfectly for the last few years with other updates to the OS.

It will now not sync with the subwwofer, what ever I try to do. I have reset the TV, reset the USB sender/dongle and the Subwoofer too, all with no sucess.

I have read on the USA community board someone else has had the same problem. I doubt I will be able to roll back to Android 8, so waiting on a fix from Sony I guess.

Unless someone has a fix?

Update on my SkyProtect repair - or at least firmware downgrade…

They have replaced the main board in the TV, but the first time they did this they upgraded the firmware! Doh!

After that fail and an attempt to downgrade, the TV is in a perpetual loop and will no longer boot up - either with the old or new board! Doh!

They are now working with Sony for next steps, but looks like the “repair” has just written off the TV.
will post an update when I know more, but almost 4 weeks without this TV now.

Appreciate the update.

Good to hear that someone is working with Sony to get a fix for your TV, hopefully it will be a fix that helps us all.

There is still hope.

Does anyone know if SONY will ever actually release another software release for these older TV's?

I'm not sure if anything is planned, probably unlikely if you ask me, but we can always call them up to leave some feedback.

I sincerely hope there is an update as I have a TV that sounds very average, a bass bin that no longer works and it seems to want to reboot quite often after coming out of standby too.

Not really what I was expecting after a software upgrade from a premium brand like SONY. Especially as it was fine before the update.

If anyone has the time to call them, by all means try.

Yesterday I call our Sony Support in Slovenia by phone and today I get an answer (by e-mail):

Thank you for your call. As agreed, I checked to see if any information was already available about upcoming updates and unfortunately not yet.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

As I remember the last update from Sony was from late November 2020.........I hope to see the new one as soon as possible.......

So my old TV has been written off, and I've got a shiny new Sony 55KD-A8 (OLED) as an upgraded replacement (cost me an additional £400).  Didn't think that was bad considering the old TV was 5 years old, and the A8s are £1400+ new.  Also paired it with an HFZ9 soundbar/sub pack.

Ultimately the problem still exists, and I have a working sub that I dare not sell in case the person buying has the updated firmware.

Good luck to everyone else, but I honestly don't see Sony fixing this... just think they are waiting for people to do what I did. 😞

Good to hear you got some sort of resolution in the end, even though it cost you £400 to upgrade.

How did you start the ball rolling with getting SONY to even try and fix in the first place?

Did you have some sort of extended warranty?

I'm also wondering if the problem we have encountered has affected everybody with a SWF-BR100 Sub or have just a few of us been unfortunate! Does anyone know?

I still live in hope that one day - It will be resolved with a software fix.

Wow

Amazing - Its all working again!

Thanks for the update telling us all. My faith in SONY has been restored.

FYI, I did do the update with the USB transmitter unplugged, just in case, then plugged it back in after the Install was completed.

I'd forgotten how good it sounds with the sub attached.

Hope it works for others that had the same problem!

Thanks SONY! and everyone that has contributed to getting this resolved.
