hi,
I have a handycam dcrhc24e - about 5 years old and rarely used - but when I went to use it this Xmas it had developed a problem. I tried to eject the tape and it did come out very slowly but now the film slot will not close at all and the screen keeps flashing a message saying 'reattach the power source'. The power source is attached, it is all fired up to go but I just can't close the film slot - the camera will not shut at all - any ideas what is wrong please?

Hello loopyloo123 - Welcome to the Sony Forums
If the tape cover will not physically shut, have you tried looking inside the mechanism (perhaps with a torch) to see if there is any kind of object that has fallen inside that may be obstructing the door. Other than that, some people have also bizarrely had success in the past by turning the whole unit upside down and then giving a couple of firm taps with their palm of their hand on the bottom of the camera (this has been known to shift things that have got stuck inside).
If none of this work, there may be an internal fault within the camera and the cost of repair would natually need to be weighed up against the cost of a new camera to see what would be more economical - unfortunately repairs can be prohibitively expensive these days. If you want to get more information about a repair from an official Sony repair centre you can contact customer services using the details in the following forum thread:

If it is going to be expensive but you defintely want to go for a repair, it may be worth shopping around with any local company that can offer this service to try and get the best price.
Thanks,
Simon
